At the end of August the Pike-lets headed into the Waitakere Ranges. Using the Auckland Tramping Club Hut as a base we completed a range of walks, including two night tramps and a massive 7 hour day to Piha and back on Friday. The Pike-lets should be congratulated for their efforts. When not tramping they were organising their tents and building bivouacs to sleep in and cooking all of their own food.

Seven Summits
On Friday 10 August the WPCA students set out on an urban adventure. There is a theory that you can climb seven summits in Auckland City in seven hours. The aim was to bag to create our own route through the city and bag as many summits as we could. Mt Hobson, Mt St John, Mt Eden, Mt Roskill, Mt Albert, Big King and One Tree Hill were going to be invaded.

Bushcraft 101
This Friday the 11th of May we are heading into the Hunua Ranges. We will be learning and practicing a range of bushcraft skills.
Make sure you have:

Make sure you have:

- Enough food and drink
- Warm clothes
- Wet weather gear
- Good shoes or tramping boots
- A backpack that you can put everything in.
I suggest packing things that might get wet in a plastic bag to help keep them dry.
Keep your eyes on the weather - we will be going regardless of the conditions. Knowing what the weather is doing will give you a good idea what to bring on the day.

Rangitoto Kayak...
Weather is looking primo for our kayak tomorrow. Don't forget to ensure you have warm clothing and plenty of food and drink. Wind, sun and tide are all on our side - bring it on.
Keep your eye on the weather by checking the Weather Watch and Metservice websites below. To kayak to we ideally need sunny and calm conditions. If you check the marine forecast on the Metservice website, look for conditions that have wind below 10 knots.

Return to Ruapehu
Over the weekend William and I went back up to tackle the beast - Mt Ruapehu. It was the first time since September 2007 we had visited the summit and the Dome Shelter. There was media present, so I have included the links of newspaper articles that were written. Our story should also be on Campbell Live (7pm, TV3) on Wednesday hopefully.

Hi everyone,
After a bit of bad weather mucking up our plans for kayaking, I thought it would be a good idea to start a blog so everyone can stay in the loop about our WPCA plans.
If you have a google email account (gmail) you can follow this blog and make comments/ask questions. But be sure to ask Mum and Dad before you create an account. If you don't have a gmail account, you can still view the updates etc.
We will also be able to upload photos and videos so you can show your family all the cool stuff we do!
Mr Christie
